Coartem contains a combination of artemether and lumefantrine. Artemether and lumefantrine are anti-malaria medicines that interfere with the growth of parasites in the red blood cells of the human body. Malaria is caused by parasites that enter the body through the bite of a mosquito.

Coartem is a prescription medicine used to treat the symptoms of Malaria. Coartem may be used alone or with other medications.
Coartem belongs to a class of drugs called Antimalarials.
It is not known if Coartem is safe and effective in children younger than 2 years of age or less than 5 kilos (11 lbs)
Side Effects
Common Coartem side effects may include:
- headache, dizziness;
- fever, chills, cough, feeling weak or tired;
- stiffness or pain in your muscles and joints;
- vomiting; or
- loss of appetite.

Who can’t take this
Coartem Tablets are not approved for patients with severe or complicated P. falciparum malaria.
When to see a doctor:
Seek immediate medical attention if your symptoms of malaria (such as fever, chills, headache, other flu-like symptoms), persist or worsen after 1 to 2 days of taking this medication
